A new animated show for kids executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama, We the People, is headed to Netflix on July 4. Releasing the first trailer on Wednesday, the series will be ten episodes long, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Former President Obama announced the news of his new show We the People on Twitter with the debut of the trailer. He tweeted: “Michelle and I are excited to share our latest show from Higher Ground: We The People. Some of our favorite artists got together with amazing animators to remix civics—and the result is a lot better than what we had in school. Check it out on @Netflix this July 4.”

Entertainment Weekly picked up a press release from Netflix which details We The People as: “an exuberant call to action for everyone to rethink civics as a living, breathing thing and to reframe their understanding of what government and citizenship mean in a modern world.”
The series will have a show stopping cast who will all contribute original music and poetry, including the poet Amanda Gordon, Robert and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Frozen), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Janelle Monae (Homecoming), Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer), and Andra Day (The United States Vs. Billie Holiday), in addition to the artists H.E.R., Brandi Carlile, Bebe Rexha, Adam Lambert, Brittany Howard, and KYLE. We the People will consist of three-minute animated music videos with the goal to educate young people on United States civic lessons.
The Obamas will executive produce through their production company Higher Ground. They will co-executive produce alongside Kenya Barrish (Black-ish), Priya Swaminathan (Becoming), and Tonia Davis (Underwater). Chris Nee (Doc McStuffins) is the series creator.
We the People is directed by Victoria Vincent (Cat City), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Trisha Gum (Robot Chicken), Kendra Ryan, Benjy Brooke (The Strokes: At the Door), Mabel Ye (Beautiful Brain), Tim Rauch (TripTank), Jorge R. Gutierrez (The Book of Life), Daron Nefcy (Star vs. the Forces of Evil) and Everett Downing (Hair Love).
