Netflix just released the trailers and titles for each episode of Black Mirror season five. With the season premiere only two weeks away, Netflix is amping audiences up for the unsettling, mind-bending material that Charlie Brooker has concocted for three stand-alone episodes. Netflix has unveiled the titles and descriptions for each new installment of the sci-fi anthology.
The first episode, Smithereens, stars Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Topher Grace (That ’70s Show, BlacKkKlansman) and Damson Idris (Snowfall). The official synopsis reads: “A cab driver with an agenda becomes the center of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.” Smithereens appears to focus on app addiction and features Andrew Scott as an unhinged Uber/Lyft driver, pointing a gun at one of his riders. The second episode, Striking Vipers, features Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (The Get Down). According to the description, the episode is about “two estranged college friends [who] reunite in later life, triggering a series of events that could alter their lives forever.” The episode appears to be about a dating app (or some type of simulator) that negatively affects a picture-perfect marriage. The third and final episode, Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too, stars pop singer Miley Cyrus, Madison Davenport (Shameless), and Angourie Rice (Every Day). The episode is about “a lonely teenager yearns to connect with her favorite pop star — whose charmed existence isn’t quite as rosy it appears.” The episode appears to be a dark and twisted callback to Miley Cyrus’s Hannah Montana fame, and it involves the popstar unveiling a mini-robot version of herself that creepily repeats encouraging messages like “Believe in yourself!” Watch the trailer below:
Season five of Black Mirror will premiere on June 5.
