In early July we reported on the first trailer for the new and upcoming show Billions, but now Showtime has released another look into the series (via Entertainment Weekly).
Billions which will air January 17, 2016, stars two major Emmy award winning actors going head to head. Paul Giamatti (John Adams) will play U.S Attorney Chuck Rhodes who is after the hedge fund king Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod, played by Damian Lewis (Homeland). These two figures, who are both motivated by pride and power, will be pinned against each other. Damian Lewis talked about the major character struggles within the show at the Television Critics’ Association, saying that “these are two powerful men struggling to retain power in their respective kingdoms. They can be ruthless” (Los Angeles Times).
Here’s the second trailer for Showtime’s new drama:
Damian Lewis’ work on Billions will mark his first time back at Showtime since his work with Homeland. Along with the two Emmy award winning actors, the show also stars Maggie Siff (Mad Men), Toby Leonard Moore (Daredevil), and David Costabile (Breaking Bad).
The pilot for the new drama was directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist). Billions is written and executive produced by Brian Koppelman (Solitary Man), David Levien (The Illusionist), and Andrew Ross Sorkin (Too Big to Fail). Andrew Ross Sorkin is an accomplished financial journalist who will team up with Levien and Koppelman to tackle the financial aspects of the show.
Paul Giamatti commented on the ambiguity his character and the series has, saying, “I keep having this funny conundrum of do I want to know the specifics of what’s going to happen, or am I enjoying learning it as it happens? The kind of joy of that is really unique, too. I’ve never felt that. So the whole thing is super interesting to me” (via Variety).
Billions premieres on Showtime January 17, 2016.
