At Marvel Studios, Disney Plus is now working on the spinoff project of WandaVision, via Variety. The spinoff series will center on the character Agatha Harkness. Kathryn Hahn, who played Agatha in the original series, will return and portray the same role. WandaVision is Marvel Studios’ first television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series received numerous accolades, including three Primetime Emmy Awards. Airing in January, the series concluded in March with nine episodes. The Agatha spinoff marks the first spinoff series of the show.
In WandaVision, Hahn started out playing the role of Agnes, the nosy neighbor of Wanda. It is later revealed that her real identity was Agatha, a powerful witch who wants to contest Wanda. Surviving the Salem Witch Trials, Agatha was defeated by Wanda’s Scarlet Witch and was reverted to playing the role of Agnes permanently in Westview, New Jersey.
Before joining WandaVision, Hahn was known for her roles on both television and movies. She played Rachel in the 2013 movie Afternoon Delight, and later in the sequel Private Life. She also starred in television series such as Mrs. Fletcher, Crossing Jordan, and Central Park. Her performance in WandaVision earned her a nomination of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the Primetime Emmy Awards. Variety also exclusively reported that Hahn will join The Comeback Girl, a limited series developing at Showtime, to portray Joan Rivers. Besides the upcoming WandaVision spinoff, Hahn will also star in the Apple series, The Shrink Next Door, and the Rian Johnson (Looper) feature, Knives Out 2.
Jac Schaeffer, the creator and head writer of the original series, will continue to be the writer and executive producer for the new project. Schaeffer is known for her work TiMER where she served as the writer, director, and producer. She also wrote the animated short Olaf’s Frozen Adventure and the feature The Hustle starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. Schaeffer formerly worked for Marvel’s Black Widow.
As the project is still developing, Marvel Studios remains quiet about more specific details such as release date and plot.
