AMC’s growing The Walking Dead televised universe has added two new players. Clémence Poésy (The Essex Serpent, Tenet) and Adam Nagaitis (Chernobyl, The Last Duel) have joined Norman Reedus’ (Sky, Blade II) spinoff vehicle, Daryl Dixon, based on his original character from the mothership series, according to Deadline. The series is set for a 2023 release.
Originally set to showcase both TWD’s Reedus and Melissa McBride’s Carol, the series will now prioritize focus on Daryl alone as he embarks on new adventure in this perilous world. Deadline reports the story will take place after the events of The Walking Dead, following Dixon as he treks overseas to France. Here he will befriend both Poésy and Nagaitis’ characters.
Poésy is set to star as Isabelle, a member of a religious group who accompanies Daryl on his travels, via Deadline. But as they arrive in Paris, she is compelled to keep a low profile as trauma from her past sets to catch up with her. Nagaitis, in his return to AMC as he previously starred in The Terror, will portray a Brit named Quinn. Relocating to France, Quinn has capitalized on the fall of society, becoming a leader in the black market and running an underground nightclub.
Daryl Dixon is just one of the many additional series spawning from The Walking Dead which comes to an end this year. This summer during San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that a planned film trilogy set to star Andrew Lincoln’s (Guillermo del Toro Cabinet of Curiosities, Penguin Bloom) Rick Grimes would now become series with Lincoln and his on-screen love, Michonne, played by Danai Gurira (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Americanah). Prior to that exclusive, The Walking Dead: Dead City was greenlighted with Jeffery Dean Morgan (The Boys, Grey’s Anatomy) and Lauren Cohen (Mile 22, The Boy) reprising their TWD roles as Negan and Maggie, respectively.
This year AMC launched the anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead which followed an array of stories within the universe. This joined the first spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead, and the new series The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
According to Deadline, senior TWD creative David Zabel (ER, Mercy Street) will serve as showrunner. He takes over for current TWD showrunner, Angela Kang (Terriers) who will now serve as executive producer.
