For months, rumors had been going around that Breaking Bad would come back, but as a movie. In November, those rumors were confirmed that Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan was writing up the script for a movie sequel to the show. It will debut on Netflix first and afterward air on its home network, AMC.
The decision to bring the movie to the streaming site before AMC is because of the effect Netflix has had on the series.
“I think Netflix kept us on the air,” Gilligan said. “Not only are we standing up here, I don’t think our show would have even lasted beyond season two….It’s a new era in television, and we’ve been very fortunate to reap the benefits.”
After Gilligan mentioned Netflix, fans were curious to check out the show that was winning most of the Emmy awards. Shortly after, the series blew up. It became a phenomenal hit for Netflix and AMC.
The show spanned over five seasons with an exceptional thriller of a series finale, but it did leave some unanswered questions for fans.
“It’s a great story and there are a lot of people who felt that they wanted to see some kind of completion to some of these storylines that were left open [in the series finale],” Cranston said. “This idea, from what I’m told, gets into those — at least a couple of the character show were not completed, as far as their journey.”
Not many details are known about the movie such as who exactly is coming back. However, Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the movie will center around Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) former student who he recruited for the meth business. Cranston isn’t so sure what his part would be in the movie, that is if they would include him.
“I don’t know if there’s an appearance — flashbacks, flash forwards — but I’m excited about it because it’s Breaking Bad and it was the greatest professional period of my life and I can’t wait to see all those people again, even if I just come by to visit,” Cranston added.
