Though Vikings’ second season is not set to debut until next year, History Channel has unveiled a first look at what is to come on the popular series.
The show made its first appearance at San Diego Comic-Con this year with a panel that featured the stars of Vikings as well as series creator Michael Hirst. With Hirst promising “more armies, more Viking ships” in the second season, the newest trailer appears to deliver exactly that.
The clip, which can be viewed below, features Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) at the head of his own army, facing down that of his brother Rollo (Clive Standen). After a tense moment, the two groups clash in the beginnings of a bloody, brutal battle—one that appears to claim the life of a fan-favorite character.
Viewers eagerly awaiting the show’s return will be pleased, however, to learn that the series has been recognized by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Vikings recently earned Emmy nominations for Main Title Design, Sound Editing and Special Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.
