Viceland to Launch in Africa

There are major marks with the move of Viceland in Africa. Viceland will launch across sub-Saharan through a partnership with Kwese, operated by Africa telecom and Econet.  Viceland has many shows that have earned record amounts of viewer ships. Shows like Huang’s World, Noisey, State of undress and Black market. All these shows focus on the usage of legal marijuana and cool trendy scenes and people demonstrate popular activities, such as eating sushi and listening to the latest Hip Hop artists.

The partnership with Econet, which operates on the TV Everywhere model in which subscribers watch content via multiple devices makes it easier for Viceland to reach more fans and also show global lifestyles. The cultural divide, which separates countries, seems to be the focus on what Viceland is trying to oversee.

In a Variety interview with Viceland International President, James Rosenstock said in a statement “The linear and multi-platform nature of this deal with Kwesé emphasizes our continued vision of ensuring viewers are given access to our programming 24 hours a day, across all screens.” The statement said Africa is the latest in several expected international deals that will carry the channel.

With the close of this deal, Viceland will be able to initial favor of what is seen and what should be acknowledged. In a Variety interview, Hundah says “Viceland is a channel enjoyed by many across the globe and we are happy to be the first TV network to introduce it to the African market.” He added that the “partnership is a natural fit for Kwesé because our target audiences include the urban youth,” which the channel is conceived for.

Viceland has become known by most as a channel that carries both famous and newer faces. Africa is launching Viceland as a way to express the Millennial generation. According to a recent PwC report, Africa is the region with the world’s highest digital media revenue growth rate. That growth is estimated at 18.6% between 2016 and 2020, mostly driven by mobile platforms. Since the start, Viceland has been seen internationally and expanded to other countries, like the UK and Ireland.

Kwesé, started out as a sports network and partnered with ESPN in Africa last year, is now branching out as a network that will offer general entertainment. They recently made another bigger deal grabbing FremantleMedia and Red Arrow that carriage channels, including Discovery Network and French music video channel Trace.
