Fans of the popular slasher film, Scream were quick to support the MTV TV series based on the serial killer, Ghostface. The show premiered in 2015. While season two was airing in 2016, a third season was announced. However, due to ties with The Weinstein Company – who held the rights – the show was delayed for three years. The newest season three trailer dropped, along with a premiere date. Scream: Resurrection finds a new home this summer at VH1.
Watch the long-awaited trailer below.
Season two was continuation of the first one. The newest season will be a reboot with an all-new cast, location, and storyline. The voice actor for the original Ghostface, Roger Jackson, returns to lend his voice for the show. Jackson has not voiced the masked killer since Scream 4 in 2011. MTV was never able to use the original Ghostface mask, but the VH1 show will bring back the iconic look for the first time on television.
Season three follows Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a local football running back who has been carrying a dark past. That past eventually catches up to Elliot and it looks to destroy his hard-earned future plans. However, Elliot isn’t the only one who will be affected by this. His friends will also fall victim to his actions.
The new cast includes Mary J. Blige, Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, Tyga, Giorgia Whigham, Jessica Sula, C.J. Wallace, and Giullian Yao Gioiello. The trailer shows Paris Jackson who is set to make a cameo appearance.
Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, and Yaneley Arty will executive produce the series. Brett Matthews (The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural) is the new showrunner for this season. Season three will consist of six episodes. From Monday, July 8 through Wednesday, July 10, Scream: Resurrection will air two episodes per night starting at 9 p.m. ET on VH1.
