The Hollywood Reporter has learned VH1 has cast all the key roles for its Drumline sequel.
Alexandra Shipp will star in VH1’s TV movie sequel to the Nick Canon film. Drumline: A New Beat will center around new characters at Atlanta A&T University. Shipp will play Dani Bolton, an upper class Brooklyn girl who attend the university against her parents’ wishes in order to attempt to revitalize their drumline.
Standing in her way will be her upperclassman cousin, Tyree (Jeff Pierre, Glee), as well as her romantic feelings for bandmate Jayven (Jordan Calloway, Unfabulous).
Costar of the original Drumline, Leonard Roberts, will reprise his role as Sean Taylor, who is now a band director looking to restore his alma mater’s drumline to greatness. Nick Cannon will also make a cameo as Devon Miles.
Production is set to begin in the spring, and the movie slated to premiere in the fall of 2014.
