It wasn’t a great year for Selina Meyer. After painstakingly rising to the top of the chain (President of the United States, that is), season six of Veep starts with Meyer in a decidedly drearier place.
Deadline announced that HBO released the trailer for the official sixth season of the hit political comedy today. The trailer was released at the always intriguing SXSW, during a panel exclusively for Veep. The trailer showed the now chagrined former President remarking, “Well, this year has been fun. You know, really fun! The loss hurt, but I did take this opportunity to reacquaint myself with an old friend of mine by the name of Selina Meyer.”
Comedy darling Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays the iconic starring role, Selina Meyer. Her fellow costars, Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Matt Walsh, and Reid Scott match her in wit and intensity, but maybe not in number of awards received (Louis-Dreyfus has accumulated over five Emmys and SAG Awards for her performance in the past five years).
And it’s almost certain this will be another award-winning season for Louis-Dreyfus, as she struggles to make her final stand in Washington after her devastating electoral loss. The trailer even has her declare war on a familiar face (Jonah Ryan, as played by Timothy Simmons), saying, “Congressman Ryan! I want to let you know that I will destroy you in ways that are so creative, they will honor me for it at the Kennedy Center.”
Veep returns to televisions on Sunday, April 16th. You can watch the trailer below:
