Vanessa Bayer Reunites with Taran Killam in ABC’s ‘Single Parents’

Taran Killam’s show, Single Parents, will have guest star who Killam previously worked with, Vanessa Bayer. Bayer and Killam joined SNL at the same time back in 2010 where they bonded as the newest cast members. Bayer will play the role of Mia – Will’s (Taran Killam) ex-wife.

Mia returns to surprise Sophie (Marlow Barkley), her and Will’s daughter, at her birthday party. Bayer will be in two episodes in which she targets Will’s parenting skills as a single parent and causes him to feel unappreciated.

“She sort of left Taran and their daughter because she felt she needed to go around the world and help different people,” Bayer tells EW of her character. “She’s a very globally minded person, and she’s a good person. But what we think of normal domestic life, she was just not into at all, so that’s why she left.” Although she left, Mia loves her daughter and she wants the very best for her.

Having the chance to reunite with Killam was a no-brainer for Bayer. “As soon as we started working together on SNL, I would always call him my work husband and he would call me his work wife, and we established that dynamic pretty immediately,” Bayer says. “He makes me laugh more than anyone else. He delights me.”

Bayer loved not only working with Killam again, but she enjoyed her time with the other cast members as well. “I had so much fun doing the show. They’re all so great, and it’s such a funny show but it also has a lot of heart,” she adds. “Taran makes me laugh more than anybody. The whole cast is so funny. It was just a joy to do it.”

Catch Vanessa Bayer in Single Parents on January 16 and the 23rd. The show airs on Wednesdays at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.
