USA’s ‘Suits’ Breaks Nielsen Streaming Records; FX’s ‘The Bear’ Reaches One Billion Minutes Viewed in a Week

Deadline has reported that USA’s Suits is a top performer of Peacock and Netflix, with 3.1 billion viewing minutes for the week of June 26 to July 2 on the two streaming services, according to Nielsen’s latest streaming data. This is a 36% increase in viewership for the series from the previous week and is another week that the series is on top of Nielsen’s streaming charts. This breaks the record for an acquired series in one measurement week.

There have been several series that have multiple weeks with over one billion viewing minutes after joining a streaming service, including The Office and Manifest, however, none of them have quite managed to perform as well as SuitsManifest had previously broken the record among acquired content with 2.5 billion minutes viewed in June of 2021, according to Nielsen.

According to Deadline, Nielsen predicts that Suits has several more weeks of high viewership on the horizon because 75% of the viewing total during this week was for only the first three seasons out of the series’ nine.

FX’s The Bear rose to number three on the Nielsen streaming charts, up number five the previous week. The series received one billion minutes viewed on Hulu in the week after the debut of the second season. This is the second time Hulu original passed one billion viewing minutes, the first being The Handmaid’s Tale with 1.04 billion minutes viewed in the first week of May 2021.

Number two on the Nielsen streaming charts the week of June 26 to July 2 is Netflix’s The Witcher, with 1.3 billion minutes viewed following the release of the first five episodes of season three. The rest of the list includes S.W.A.T. at number four with 891 million viewing minutes on Paramount+, Netflix, and Hulu, Black Mirror at number five with 853 million viewing minutes on Netflix, Bluey at number 6 with 803 million viewing minutes on Disney+, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan at number seven with 778 million viewing minutes on Prime Video, Grey’s Anatomy at number eight with 734 million minutes viewed on Netflix, The Big Bang Theory at number nine with 602 million minutes viewed on Max, and NCIS at number 10 with 579 million minutes viewed on Netflix and Paramount+.
