The Hollywood Reporter has given word that USA Network’s dystopian drama Colony has been renewed for a third season ahead of Thursday’s season finale.
The good news for Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal comes in the wake of Cuse bidding farewell to two other projects, The Strain on FX and Bates Motel on A&E. However, Colony’s resounding success in its block likely takes the sting from those two goodbyes. The series regularly receives through the roof ratings on Thursdays, and heads at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment have taken heed. Said the organization’s president of entertainment networks, Chris McCumber, “Colony continues to fire on all cylinders creatively, with Carlton, Ryan and our incredible cast and crew striking a deep chord around the themes of humanity, survival and family. Along with our partners Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for our heroes next season.”
Set in a “near future” Los Angeles, Colony follows the path of Lost alum Josh Holloway’s Will Bowman who is forced to go to great lengths to protect his family in the wake of an event referred to as the Arrival. The Walking Dead starlet Sarah Wayne Callies stars as Bowman’s wife, Katie, who has a hidden agenda of her own. The central themes of subservience and resistance resound throughout the series, something that was always an intention of the creators. When pitching the show to Jeff Wachtel, president and chief content officer at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, Wachtel says Cuse and Condal described the project as “the Nazi occupation of France, with aliens.”
Colony is a co-production of Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions. Its third season will feature 13 episodes, same as the second and is expected to return for Season 3 in 2018. Until then, viewers can tune in to USA Network this Thursday, Apirl 6 at 10/9 C. As for the future, stay tuned with mxdwn Television for any updates regarding Colony Season 3.
