What was originally a limited series is now going to have a second season. USA has announce that they are bring back The Sinner. Bill Pullman (the star of the show) will retake his role as Detective Harry Ambrose, and as of now, it is unknown if Jessica Biel will return with an on screen role in the show. However, she will have a behind the scenes job as an executive producer for the second season. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the first season.
The plot for the second season is Ambrose going back to his hometown in rural New York. While there the crime that he is assessing is about an eleven year old son which murdered both of his parents. There is no apparent motive for the son’s actions. While in the investigation the Ambrose realizes that the boy is not ordinary and his investigation takes him to a hidden darkness in his hometown. There is a mysterious woman that is an important piece to his haunting puzzle and there are those that will do anything to protect its secrets.
Antonio Campos will return to direct and executive produce the first two episodes. He directed the first three episodes of the first season. The showrunner will again be Derek Simonds who will also executive produce alongside Charlie Gogolak and Brad Winters.

The first season of The Sinner earned itself four nominations. Two of them were Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television and Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for Biel. The other two where Critic’ Choice Award nominations for Best Actor in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series, and Best Actress in a Movie Made for TV or Limited Series.
Season two’s eight episodes is expected to air in the summer.
