USA Network has ordered the pilot of Poor Richard’s Almanack from Universal Cable Productions and Legendary Television.
The title comes from the name of Benjamin Franklin’s yearly almanac. The drama comes from executive producer Jim Danger Gray and consulting producer Miguel Sapochnik. Both have impressive credits to their names, Gray served as a producer on Orange Is The New Black and Sapochnik has directed Game Of Thrones episodes in the past and will direct two for season six, according to Variety.
The thriller will weave historical aspects with modern day and the future. It centers around a group of people who emerge as heroes and as the new Founding Fathers after America is pushed to the brink of collapse. The show will switch between the modern day and a potential future where these characters have changed dramatically, according to Deadline.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that in the series America undergoes a big attack that the new Founding Fathers save it from.
“Jim and Miguel have brought us a bold conceptual world using historical references in a modern-day society,” said Jackie de Crinis, USA’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming.
The pilot is the second project between Legendary and USA joining the upcoming Colony from Lost co-creator Carlton Cuse. USA’s other upcoming drama pilots include Falling Water and Paradise Pictures, according to Variety.
