USA network has ordered drama series American Rust, which is an adaptation of Philipp Meyer’s novel of the same name. Set in a small town in Pennsylvania, this series explores the rise and fall of crime-riddled community as seen through the eyes of a sheriff with a history of violence.
American Rust is the second adaption of Meyer’s work after AMC previously launched a series adaptation of Meyer’s novel The Son. Co-creators and executive producers of The Son Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman wrote the pilot for American Rust with Meyer. The trio will executive produce the drama with Michael De Luca via his Michael De Luca Productions along with Platform One Media’s Quan Phung, Elisa Ellis, and Courtney Conte. De Luca’s producing partner Elishia Holmes will serve as co-executive producer. Universal Cable Productions and Platform One Media will produce the series while David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) is set to direct and executive produce the pilot.
This series order marks the latest drama series at USA, which was picked up a week after the network revealed its latest drama series Damnation. This also marks the first series order for Platform One Media and one of De Luca’s first forays into scripted television.
USA’s drama schedule currently consists of Queen of the South, Colony, Falling Water, Mr. Robot, The Sinner, and Suits. In early 2018, the cabler will launch the true crime drama Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.
