The upcoming Marvel TV series Ironheart has received legendary approval from none other than Ironman himself, Robert Downey Jr.(Avengers, Sherlock Holmes). According to Comicbook, the series will focus on the journey of Riri Williams aka Ironheart, played by Dominique Thorne (Marvel Zombies, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), who has returned from her trip to Wakanada and now entails in a battle against Parker Robbins aka The Hood, played by Anthony Ramos (Hamilton, Twisters).
Thorne goes on to speak in an interview with Comicbook about the approval, “Robert Downey Jr. and I spoke just after we wrapped, and he shared some very lovely words about my journey,” she remembered. “He told me how excited he was and that he’s rooting for it, too. I literally got two thumbs up. It’s really reassuring to know you’re not embarrassing Iron Man”. She further states the comparison between the two characters saying, “She’s dumpster-diving, whereas Tony Stark [was] this bajillionaire”.
According to Comicbook, this endorsement by Downey has added another level of excitement towards the series. The series will surely delve deeper in the character of Riri and how she will evolve and grow into becoming the titled character.The newest version of the Ironheart suit that Riri built from scavenged parts mirrors Tony’s Mark I suit.
According to Comicbook, the additional members that will be joining Thorne and Ramos will include Lyric Ross (This Kid Us, Wendell and Wild) as Riri’s Best friend, Natalie, Alden Ehrenreich(Beautiful Creatures, Cocaine Bear) as Joe McGillicuddy and Manny Montana (Good Girls, Graceland) as Cousin John.
With a wonderful blessing from Downey, Ironheart is poised to be a compelling new addition in the MCU. The upcoming series is scheduled to premiere on June 24th, but while fans await on future updates on Ironheart, all previous installments of the Marvel franchise are available to stream on Disney+.
