Variety reports that Netflix’s upcoming multi-cam comedy series, Leanne, has added five members to its regular cast: Ryan Stiles (Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Memory Lanes), Blake Clark (9-11: Lone Star, Hacks), Graham Rogers (High Potential, Atypical), Hannah Pilkes (Earth Girl, Search Party) and Celia Weston (Echoes, The Thing About Pam). The five actors will be joining cast members Leanne Morgan (My Opry Debut) and Kristen Johnson (The Righteous Gemstones, Our Flag Means Death), who will be portraying Carol.
The series, co-created by Morgan, Chuck Lorre (Bookie, Young Sheldon) and Susan McMartin (The Conners, How We Roll), was picked up to series by Netflix this past April. It is scheduled to debut on the streamer in 2025.
According to Variety, the official logline states, “Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family, she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad.”
Rogers will reportedly play Tyler, Leanne’s son, described by Variety as “her pride and joy. A new dad who’s cowed by his dominating wife, Tyler has the pressures that come with starting your own family while at the same time trying to navigate how to walk through the unexpected demise of his parents’ marriage.”
Pilkes will play Leanne’s daughter Josie, said by Variety to be “the complete opposite of Tyler. A partier, a rule breaker, a seeker of fun. In and out of jobs, in and out of relationships, Josie has always known her brother is the golden child, so she accepted her role as the rebel early on and never disappoints in fulfilling it.”
Stiles will play Bill, Leanne’s ex-husband. According to Variety, Bill has been “married to Leanne for 33 years”, having built his RV business to provide a good life for his family. ”A devoted husband, father, grandfather and son-in-law, Bill always put family first… until now. Having just blown up his life by leaving Leanne for another woman, Bill, for the first time, has no idea what he’s doing.”
Weston is cast as Mama Margaret, Leanne and Carol’s mother and the matriarch of the family. Variety describes her as “a faithful member of the church and community. [She] always has a kind word and a glass-half-full attitude. She’s fully prepared for death but will probably outlive them all.”
Clark plays Daddy John, Leanne and Carol’s father. Variety describes him as “a bit old school when it comes to the roles of men and women. Strong, outspoken and would do anything for his family.”
Morgan, McMartin and Lorre will executive produce alongside Judi Marmel (After Midnight, Uproarious) and Nick Bakay (The Kominsky Method, Mom). Chuck Lorre Productions produces in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Lorre is under an overall deal.
