Lifetime has confirmed beginning the process of new movie remake of Beverly Hills, 90210.
After the remake of both Saved By the Bell in 2014 and the upcoming Full House movie, Lifetime will create a tell-all movie. This new Lifetime project will present to viewers the roller coaster of the first four seasons of 90210. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie will show the show’s almost cancellations and also its rise to becoming a teen culture phenomenon.
An air date has not yet been disclosed.
Jeff Roda (Love Liza) will write the script for the project. Director of the movie will be Vanessa Parise (PopFan). Peter M. Green (Mean Girls 2) and Howard Braunstein (The Informant!) will executive produce while Christian Bruyere (A Girl’s Best Friend) will produce.
On Fox, Beverly Hills, 90210, ran for 10 seasons. It quickly became the networks forerunner series. The show brought stars Jason Priestley, Luke Perry, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green and Shannen Doherty to light. Many of these people made a name for themselves on this show; acting on this series jumpstarted many careers.
The CW launched a remake titled 90210 in 2008. In this revival, fans saw Garth, Doherty and Spelling reprise their roles. The show found success at first, but was eventually canceled after five seasons. The Beverly Hills, 90210 project is being developed only a few months before the 25th anniversary of the original series.
