In an exclusive report by Deadline, it has been reported that the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team has locked in a three-part docuseries on Apple TV+. This has been announced after the team became the 2025 NCAA National Champions, beating out South Carolina to gain the title.
Deadline confirms that the team is led by the Hall of Famer Geno Auriemma. Auriemma maintains the best record in all of college basketball.
Deadline reports that the series is currently in production and won’t just be covering the recent victory. It will also scrape the archives and feature an extensive coverage of the women’s basketball program at the University of Connecticut.
Per Deadline, the program only had one winning season before coach Auriemma stepped on the scene. Since then, the vast majority of their seasons have been winning seasons, cementing Auriemma as one of the greatest of all time. The program has also been graced with some of the best female hoopers such as Rebecca Lobo, Swin Cash, Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Maya Moore, Tina Charles, and Breanna Stewart. Not to mention the number one overall draft pick for 2025, Paige Bueckers.
On the record with Deadline, Coach Auriemma says, “We’re thrilled to be working with Apple TV+ and Skydance Sports on this project that gives a behind-the-scenes look at our National Championship run that has never been seen before.” He continued to express his excitement, “This series offers fans an exclusive view into 40 seasons of UConn women’s basketball, and I’m really excited for audiences to be able to see all the hard work that has built this program.”
Deadline reports that this is the next installment in a line of sports docuseries from Apple TV+. Other titles include Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series, Onside: Major League Soccer, and Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend.
