According to Deadline, Tyler Perry has confirmed a House of Payne revival series that will debut on BET and will also feature original series stars LaVan Davis, Cassi Davis Patton, Lance Gross, Demetria McKinney, China Anna McClain, Larramie “Doc” Shaw, Keshia Knight Pulliam, and Allen Payne. BET Networks along with Tyler Perry Studios have also announced an additional series for Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, which is said to be a new comedy starring David Mann, Tamela Mann, J. Anthony Brown, Na’im Lynn, Courtney Nichole, Tayler Buck and Alex Henderson. Both new productions have begun shooting at Tyler Perry Studios and are scheduled to premiere this summer on BET.
In the past, Perry had hinted at a House of Payne revival but only now has it been confirmed. The revival will be considered the seventh season of the original series which ran on TBS for 254 episodes. The revival series is said to pick up five years later, as retired fire chief Curtis Payne (LaVan Davis) and his wife Ella (Cassi Davis Patton) continue to navigate the problems of life with their modern-day family.
TVLine reported that this won’t be the first time the Payne family have gotten together since the TBS show ended in 2012. There was a one-season spinoff called The Paynes, which also included Jackee Harry among its stars, aired on OWN in 2018.
The plot for Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living follows Jeremy (Na’im Lynn) after losing his job, he decides to move his family to the backwoods of Georgia to help his grandfather. Grandpa Vinny (J. Anthony Brown) purchased a run-down home for the elderly and it’s proven to be more than he can manage. But when Mr. Brown (David Mann) and Cora (Tamela Mann) enter the picture as desperate investors, the laughs land firmly back on track.
