After the Golden Globes yesterday there had been several hints dropped regarding the second season of The Studio. According to Variety, the series was nominated for three Golden Globes and managed to walk away with two Golden Globes for “Best Television Series for a Musical or Comedy” and “Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series for a Musical or Comedy.”
For those who do not know the series is a sharp satirical comedy about the inner workings of modern Hollywood and the struggle between artistic ambition and corporate demands. The series main character Matt Remick is the head of the fictional film studio known as “Continental Studios” and must navigate the film industry, creative storytelling, and produce profitable intellectual properties in order to earn the approval of A-list celebrities.
According to Variety, series star and executive producer Seth Rogen (The Boys, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) found himself in a surreal state when it came to the series winning not just one but two Golden Globes. Rogen had this to say when it came to the second season, “‘We’ve literally written some things that happened leading up to this award show into episodes as we’ve been writing the show. We start shooting in a week,’ he said. ‘So yes, several things have happened, both today and leading up to this event that we have written directly into the show, and you’ll probably know what they are when you see them.'”
The cast consists of Seth Rogen (The Boys, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Catherine O’Hara (The Wild Robot, Argylle), Ike Barinholtz (The Simpsons, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Chase Sui Wonders (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Moon Lake), Kathryn Hahn (Fixed, Agatha All Along), Dewayne Perkins (Long Story Short, Ironheart), Nicholas Stoller (Platonic, You’re Cordially Invited), Matt Belloni (Plain English with Derek Thompson, The Town with Matthew Belloni), Bryan Cranston (Everything’s Going to Be Great, The Phoenician Scheme), Dave Franco (Krapopolis, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t), Zoë Kravitz (Caught Stealing, Blink Twice), David Krumholtz (Miracle on 74th Street, The Life Project), and Lisa Gilroy (Very Important People, A Man on the Inside).
According to Variety, filming for the second season will start as early as next week. In the meantime you can watch the first season of the two time winning Golden Globe series on Apple TV.
