TVLand is continuing to offer TV viewers brand new programming instead of reruns of classic favorites that the network used to be known for. TVLine has confirmed that the network has renewed hit comedy Younger for a fifth season ahead of its fourth season premiere on June 28 and has renewed new comedy Teachers for its third season.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing back Younger and Teachers for more seasons and double down on our dedication to creating smart, funny, honest and compelling originals,” Frank Tanki, TVLand general manager, said in a statement.
The fifth season of Younger will have 12 episodes and is expected to air at some point in 2018. For Teachers, the third season will have 20 episodes. There’s no premiere date for the third season of Teachers yet and there’s no word as to when the second half of the second season will return to TV Land.
Younger, which hails from Darren Star who has created TV shows like Sex and the City, Melrose Place and Beverly Hills, 90210, centers on Liza (Sutton Foster), a divorced mom who goes back to work in a publishing office. With the help of her best friend, Maggie (Debi Mazar), she lies about her age and pretends to be younger than she actually is. At the office, she befriends one of her co-workers, Kelsey (Hilary Duff). The third season of the show left off on a cliffhanger, with Liza revealing her true age to Kelsey.
As for Teachers, the show was developed from a web series of the same name by the improv group the Katydids. The six members of the Katydids (Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O’Brien and Kathryn Renée Thomas) each portray teachers at Filmore Elementary School in Chicago. The show focuses on their personal lives and their professional lives within the elementary school.
Younger returns for its fourth season on Wednesday, June 28 at 10 p.m. on TVLand. The premiere date for the second half of the second season and the third season of Teachers has yet to be announced.
