A novel based on Silvia Moreno-Garcia’s horror-thriller novel Mexican Gothic is in the works at Hulu. The series will hail from Kelly Ripa (All My Children, Cheaper By The Dozen) and Mark Consuelos (Riverdale, All My Children) at Milojo Productions and ABC Signature, according to Deadline.
Initially published in June, Mexican Gothic is set in the 1950s and follows a newly-wed bride living in a creepy, isolated house, who believes her husband is poisoning her. Just one week ago, Ripa posted the novel to her Instagram page and suggested it to her followers.
Moreno-Garcia is set to executive produce the adaptation alongside Ripa, Consuelos, and Albert Bianchini (Off The Rez). In a statement, Ripa said, “We feel like we hit the literary jackpot, and cannot wait to bring Silvia’s gorgeous writing to life, together with Hulu,” via Deadline. Moreno-Garcia is also the best-selling author of several other acclaimed novels, including Gods of Jade and Shadow, Certain Dark Things, and Untamed Shore.
She expressed excitement for this new journey in a statement to Deadline, “I am excited to see the novel come to life and to meet the talented, diverse crew and cast members that will take us on this journey.”
