According to Variety, Tulsa King will be going into its fourth season shooting in Atlanta, GA. without a showrunner. Tulsa King stars Sylvester Stallone (Alarum, Extracted) and it is created by Taylor Sheridan (Hell or High Water, Wind River).
Mxdwn previously reported that 26 crew members were replaced on the show from various departments, including sound, stunt, transportation, and hair. The show also lost its last shorunner. Variety reports that Scott Stone, a production executive for 101 Studios, has stepped in as acting showrunner for now. He will reportedly work closely with production managers Christian Agypt (The Walking Dead, Fly Me To The Moon) and Rebecca Rivo (I’m a Virgo, The Deuce). None of the three will write or direct any episodes.
According to Variety, the Emmy-nominated stunt coordinator for the series, Freddie Poole, recalled a conversation with Stone ahead of being let go. [Stone} said, “We’re not going to have a showrunner. 101 is the showrunner. And I raised an eyebrow at that.” Poole told Variety, “ That was the writing on the wall for me. I know at that point I better start looking out for myself.”
Variety reports it is not unusual for a series to replace the crew in between seasons, and none of the 26 crew members had any deals with the series to stay on for the fourth season. Some of the crew spoke to Variety, detailing that they were more disappointed in how they found out their role had been axed. Potential hires asked about the vacancy before they were even told.
“The manner in which this was done was just unprofessional and unnecessary.” Poole stated to Variety. “Some of these people …were told to leave their equipment at the stages [after season 3], and than told a week before shooting that they don’t have a job. I think it was really disheartening.”
