‘Tulsa King’ Showrunner Terence Winter to Leave Series

According to Deadline, the showrunner of Paramount+ mob drama Tulsa King, Terence Winter (Vinyl, Brooklyn Rules) will not be returning for season two of the series. There is currently no showrunner set for season two; Deadline reports Paramount+ is still searching. Winter will stay on as an executive producer.

Winter will be moving forward with a limited series about the famous 1986 New York Mets’ run and projects such as a streaming series with Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas, Taxi Driver).

Sources of Deadline state that Winter leaving was due to creative differences, as Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, 1883) and Winter had different ideas for the direction of the show and Sylvester Stallone’s (Rocky, First Blood) character.

The series centers on Stallone’s Dwight “The General” Mandfredi, New York mafia boss, setting up shop in Tulsa, OK after his release from prison. A new criminal empire is created as Manfredi makes a crew of friends. It is written by Yellowstone creator, Sheridan, and was first released on Paramount+ on November 13, 2022.

Along with Stallone, the series stars Andrea Savage (I’m Sorry, Look Both Ways), Martin Starr (Freaks & Geeks, Silicon Valley), Jay Will (Tulsa King, Buffed Up), Max Casella (Newsies, The Confession), Domenick Lombardozzi (We Own This CityA Bronx Tale), Vincent Piazza (Boardwalk Empire, Jersey Boys), A.C. Peterson (Dark Harvest, Carny), Garett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy, Four Brothers), and Dana Delaney (Body of Proof, Tombstone). It is executive produced by 101 Studios, MTV Entertainment Studios, and Sheridan along with Winter.

Winter has received four Emmy’s for his work on The Sopranos and multiple Emmy nominations for Boardwalk Empire, which was created and executive produced with Scorsese. He has also received an Oscar nomination for writing for The Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Scorsese.

Season one of Tulsa King has nine episodes that are streaming on Paramount+ and was picked up for season two just three episodes in.
