Tuca and Bertie are back for more fun adventures by popular demand. Adult Swim has ordered 10 episodes for season 2 of Tuca and Bertie, according to Variety. The adult animated series debuted on Netflix May 3, 2019 before being canceled two and a half months after its premiere despite positive reviews. After almost a year with the show halted, creator Lisa Hanawalt (Bojack Horseman) is ready for the series new home at Adult Swim, a platform well known for their eccentric animated series.
“I’ve been a fan of Adult Swim shows since my teens, so I’m thrilled to bring my beloved fowl to the party and be a new voice for a fresh decade of absurd, irreverent, yet heartwarming adult animation,” said Hanawalt to Variety.

With the show receiving 98 percent rating amongst critics, according to The Hollywood Reporter and 66 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it was a surprise the show was originally canceled so quickly. Hanawalt responded to her disappointment with a thread on Twitter, saying despite the cancelation, “it’s important to me and the way I want to continue making art in this world.”

The first season of Tuca and Bertie will remain on Netflix with Adult Swim having rights over the second season. Season 2 is expected to premiere sometime in 2021 with no official date announced as of now.
