Season 3 of the HBO series True Detective now has two stars ready to take on a new mystery. The Hollywood Reporter announced Carmen Ejogo (Selma) will join Mahershala Ali in the drama helmed by Nic Pizzolatto. The new story will be a dark piece taking place in the Ozarks over three decades.
It was previously announced that Ali would portray a Northwest Arkansas police detective. He will be joined by Ejogo’s schoolteacher main character who has an unfortunate connection to missing children from the 1980s. As done in Season 1, Pizzolatto has penned all of the episodes.
The English-Nigerian Carmen Ejogo found fame recently as Coretta Scott King in the film Selma. Additionally she wrapped up filming of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald where she reprised her role of Seraphina Picquery. Oscar winner Ali comes to True Detective on the heels of TV roles in Luke Cage (Cottonmouth) and House of Cards (Remy Danton).
Behind the scenes crew include new kid on the block Jeremy Saulnier who will be sharing directing duties with Pizzolatto. The list of executive producers runs for miles to include Pizzolatto, Saulnier, Scott Stephens, and season 1 players Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
Season 1 of the HBO drama pulled high ratings with its dynamic duo of McConaughey and Harrelson. The next go-round with Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell did not fare as well. Allowing Pizzolatto full reign of Season 3 is HBO’s attempt at turning the ship right again. As of this writing, HBO had not yet announced a season 3 premiere date.
