The fifth episode of the hit HBO Original drama series True Detective: Night Country will be released early only on Max, according to the Warner Bros. Discovery media release. Starting on Friday, February 9 at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 pm PT, the series will be available to stream ahead of its debut on HBO linear telecasts on Sunday, February 11 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. Likewise, the season finale will drop on Sunday, February 18, on Max and premiere on HBO at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
As per Warner Bros. Discovery, the official logline for True Detective: Night Country reads: “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers [played by] Jodie Foster (The Addams Family, Gunsmoke) and Evangeline Navarro [played by] Kali Reis (Catch the Fair One, Black Files) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
The series cast also comprises Finn Bennett (Hope Gap, The Nevers), Christopher Eccleston (Shallow Grave, Thor: The Dark World), John Hawkes (The Sessions, Winter’s Bone), Isabella Star LaBlanc (Long Slow Exhale, Pet Semetary: Bloodlines) and Fiona Shaw (The Avengers, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets). Guest stars include Joel D. Montgrand (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Beans), Anna Lambe (The Grizzlies, Trickster) and Aka Niviâna (Borgen).
True Detective: Night Country has received great praise from various media outlets since its Jan.14 release. Warner Bros. Discovery notes The Ringer described the series as the “first can’t-miss show of 2024.” Others, like Rolling Stone, stated the show is “a gripping mystery from creator Issa López… ‘True Detective’ is must-see TV again.” Additionally, New York Magazine declared the new iteration is “appointment viewing [with] powerhouse performances.”
Issa López (Road to Fame, Side Effects) is the director, showrunner, writer and executive producer of True Detective: Night Country. Foster is also an executive producer alongside Barry Jenkins (Aftersun, Moonlight), Mark Ceryak (The Hunting Party, If Beale Street Could Talk) from PASTEL, Mari Jo Winkler (Stillwater, Premium Rush), Adele Romanski (Aftersun, Never Rarely Sometimes Always), Alan Page Arriaga (Shining Girls, Babel), Chris Mundy (Ozark, Criminal Minds), Matthew McConaughey (Interstellar, Magic Mike), Cary Joji Fukunaga (It, No Time to Die), Richard Brown (Outlaw King, The Rabbit Hutch), Woody Harrelson (Natural Born Killers, Zombieland), Steve Golin (Spotlight, The Revenant), Nic Pizzolatto (The Magnificent Seven, The Guilty).
