Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are joining in on evergreen true crime shows. The married couple has signed a new deal with Oxygen network, according to The Hollywood Reporter .
Under the deal, the couple along with fellow producer Albert Bianchini will work to develop unscripted series in the true crime realm for NBCUniversal. NBCU recently charted a rebrand into true crime in 2017. “Not only have I learned how to commit the perfect crime and dispose of the body, I’ve also learned what the viewers of Oxygen want and that’s why this programming partnership makes perfect sense” Ripa said. “I have been a loyal Oxygen viewer ever since I stumbled upon my very first Snapped marathon that Sunday while making meatballs,” Ripa adds.
As the couple works to balance their day jobs- Ripa being a host of the syndicated hit Live! and Consuelos starring in CW hit Riverdale- their production company, Milojo Productions, continues to come out with new projects. Recently, the shingle had two scripted series in contention, and produced Off the Rez at TLC, and Emmy-nominated doc The Streak. “Working with super fans like Kelly and Mark is a dream come true for a true crime network,” Oxygen senior vice president of development, Cori Abraham said. “They’re both passionate about true crime, and we want to be in business with those who eat, sleep and breathe the genre,” he added. Rebranding at Oxygen has done the network wonders. Certain segments of viewership has grown as much as 32 percent in 2018.
