HBO’s popular series True Blood kicked off its sixth season Sunday night, bringing in a lower rating than last season’s premiere.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the recent premiere averaged 4.5 million viewers, a 13 percent decline from season five’s opening. However, the show still stands as HBO’s most-watched drama since the Sopranos.
Additionally, Deadline notes that the season premiere of True Blood brought in more viewers than the season three opener of Game Of Thrones. Sunday’s premiere also faced competition with the NBA finals.
This season marks the first season without Alan Ball as showrunner. Brian Buckner has replaced the position.
