Treason on Netflix premiered on December 26th and is climbing the streaming service’s top ten list. The show stars Charlie Cox, who is known for his role as Daredevil on the hit Marvel show of the same name.
According to Comic Book, the five-episode limited series has reached the fourth spot on Netflix’s top ten TV shows, which is remarkably well considering it follows popular shows Emily in Paris and Wednesday. However, the series has not been received well on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 67%. The audience rating sits even lower at 45%.
The tagline for Treason is as follows: “An MI6 deputy’s bright future takes a sharp turn after a reunion with a Russian spy forces him to question his entire life,” via Netflix. Cox stars as the protagonist, Adam Lawrence, who was “trained and groomed by MI6… But when the past catches up with him in the form of Kara, Russian spy with whom he shares a complicated past, he is forced to question everything and everyone in his life. A triangular relationship forms between Kara, Adam and his wife, Maddy; three people who are trying to expose each other’s secrets, navigate political and diplomatic relationships, whilst hanging onto their personal lives, and those they love most,” describes Deadline.
The creator of the show is Matt Charman, who was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay on Bridge of Spies. Foz Allan (Riviera; Jekyll and Hyde) will serve as executive producer alongside Valery Ryan (Cracker, Black Work). Louise Hooper (The Witcher, The Sandman) is set to direct. The additional cast includes Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion, Quantum of Solace), Oona Chaplin (The Longest Ride, Game of Thrones), Ciaran Hinds (Belfast, The Woman in Black), and Tracy Ifeachor (Showtrial, Treadstone).
Treason is currently streaming exclusively on Netflix. The official trailer for the thriller is available below.
