A new star has joined the new Dune: The Sisterhood series. According to Deadline, Australian actor Travis Fimmel (Vikings, One Way) is the latest star to join the cast of the HBO Max series.
According to Deadline, Fimmel has been cast as the male lead opposite Emily Watson (God’s Creatures, Too Close) and Shirley Henderson (See How They Run, Worzel Gummidge) in the new Dune series. Fimmel will play Desmond Hart, a charismatic soldier with a mysterious past who seeks to gain the Emperor’s favor at the expense of the Sisterhood. This new role marks Fimmel’s return to HBO Max after he had the lead role in the sci-fi drama Raised By Wolves for its two-season run.
The series, based on Frank Herbert’s (The Godmakers) novel Sisterhood of Dune, is set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ ascension and follows the Harkonnen sisters who will combat forces that threaten the future of humankind. They are also behind the establishment of the mythical sect the Bene Gesserit.
In previous announcements, HBO Max revealed that Watson and Henderson will be playing the two Harkonnen sisters in the show. It has also been announced that Game of Thrones alum Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Capture) will join the show and play Empress Natalya, the wife of the Emperor who Fimmel’s character is trying to befriend. It was also announced that Sarah-Sofie Boussmina (The Colony, Knightfall), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist, Love Me), Faoileann Cunningham (The Northman), Aoife Hinds (The Long Call, Normal People), and Chloe Lea (Foundation, The Dumping Ground) will also be participating in the show.
According to Deadline, Diane Ademu-John (Empire, The Originals) will serve as the creator, writer, co-showrunner, and executive producer of the series. The other co-showrunner is Alison Schapker (Westworld, Scandal) who will also executive produce. The premiere episode will be directed and executive produced by Johan Renck (Chernobyl, The Last Panthers). Among the executive producers is Denis Villeneuve (Dune), who was involved in the production of the 2021 Dune film.
