Trailer for ‘The Spanish Princess: Part Two’ is Gearing up for Battle

Catherine of Aragon appears dramatically different in the trailer for the upcoming second season of the Starz limited series, The Spanish Princess: Part Two. Now the Queen of England, she appears pregnant and in armor, letting out a howl as she leads men into war. Released on Thursday, the trailer is full of romance, epic battles, and conflict as Catherine comes into her own while ruling in a man’s world via Entertainment Weekly.

As the Queen of England, Catherine struggles to do what’s right while butting heads with her husband, King Henry VIII. They’re in love, but ruling together begins to put a strain on their relationship. Then, tensions arise between England and France and the only outcome is war. As Henry leaves to fight, Catherine becomes solely responsible for running England.

But, it’s not just Henry who suits up for battle. The trailer depicts Catherine gearing up to fight in The Battle of Flodden while pregnant, looking like a warrior with a sword in hand galloping into war. It also shows her struggle of being a woman amidst running a country, pressurized to produce an heir while continuing to lead.

The Spanish Princess is a loose adaptation based off the novels The King’s Curse and The Constant Princess by Philippa Gregory. It stars Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones) as Catherine and Ruairi O’Connor as Henry Vlll (The Postcard Killings). Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) portrays the fierce Queen of Scotland, Meg Tudor.

Created by Emma Frost (Shameless) and Matthew Graham (Life on Mars), The Spanish Princess is one of many historical limited series Frost has created, written, and produced for Starz. She’s also helmed shows The White Queen and The White Princess. In anticipation of part two, Frost told Entertainment Weekly what to expect next in regards to Catherine and Henry’s relationship: “The heart of the show is the emotional and more intimate things. A huge part of this season is something that’s so rarely written about or portrayed on TV, which is a woman’s struggle, or a couple’s struggle, to have a child, and the absolute anguish that can cause. I’m proud of the way that we portray that and really showed the emotional toll that takes, and how it impacts a relationship, particularly for two monarchs in the Tudor period, where whether or not you have a son is the measure in your mind of whether or not God loves you

The Spanish Princess:Part Two will air on Starz, Sunday October 11 at 8 p.m ET/PT.
