Netflix released the first trailer for its next original series Sense8 today.
Sense8 is a drama from Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix), J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5), and Grant Hill (Cloud Atlas). Straczynski describes Sense8 in Buzzfeed interview, “It’s a global story told on a planetary scale about human transcendence and what it ultimately means to be human in a contemporary society.”
The show follows eight characters from around the world who find themselves linked emotionally and mentally following a tragic death. The trailer shows plenty of mind bending scenes and martial arts fighting as the characters come to discover their connection.
Straczynski tells Deadline, “Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”
Not much has been released about the characters and which actors will play them but Vulture reports that there will be, “a closeted Mexican telenovela hunk, an Icelandic party girl, a German safe-cracker, a Korean businesswoman, an African bus driver and a transgender American blogger.”
The trailer prominently features Naveen Andrews of Lost. Other cast members include: Daryl Hannah, Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Aml Ameem, Freema Agyeman, Tena Desae, Doona Bae, Max Riemelt, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Silvestre and Terrence Mann, according to Deadline.
The 12-episode series will premiere on Netflix on June 5. Watch the trailer below.
