With the end of 30 Rock, Tracy Morgan has time to focus on a new series. He has closed a deal with FX to star in a pilot for Death Pact, Rob Long and Tad Sarfan’s new comedy series.
Writers and executive producers Long (Cheers) and Safran (the Long Weekend) are teaming up with Tannenbaum Co. to create the pilot episode of this new half-hour comedy. Morgan will star as a reborn war hero who returns to his hometown where he was once the lazy, pot-dealing high school coach to help coach his old down-on-their-luck friends and former students in life by convincing them to follow his new self-help philosophy, which has harsh consequences for failure.
The pilot will be shot this Summer in New York and New Jersey. There is no word yet on who will co-star as the three friends who buy into Morgan’s philosophy.
“Needless to say anything starring Tracy Morgan could be off-the-charts hilarious and we’re betting this one is,” Nick Grad, executive vice president of original programming and development at FX, said in a statement. “We look forward to casting the other three co-stars and getting started with production. This is going to be fun.”
