Tracy Morgan and Jordan Peele’s Series Confirmed for Series Order

Tracy Morgan is coming back to TV.

Indiewire recently detailed the reports of his return, citing the new comedy collaborating that’s bringing together Morgan, Jordan Peele, and TBS.

Formerly, the Morgan-based series (which has not been given a title as of this moment) was being developed with FX. The series received a pilot order, but made the surprising move to pass on the project, even with the buzz surrounding Morgan and Peele. Thankfully, TBS was ready to pick up the comedy, and have already ordered ten episodes for their first season.

TBS Executive Vice President of Programming, Brett Weitz, issued a statement on the series pickup:

“Tracy and Jordan are two of today’s most sought-after and authentically funny comedians, and this show captures all the hilarity you would expect from this brilliant duo.”

While the show stars Tracy Morgan, it is created by and executive produced by Jordan Peele. The show will feature large components of what has made Morgan’s standup legendary in the comedy community, riffing about every topic from racism to the generational gap. The show begins after Morgan’s character is released from prison after 15 years, and finds the outside world nothing like he left it; his Brooklyn neighborhood has undergone a radical makeover and his girlfriend is raising his secret twin sons with an unknown white man. The only skills Morgan can use in this new modern world are the skills he learned in prison, surely lending him to many hilarious and heartfelt roadblocks.

Morgan and Peele’s new series is a good fit among the comedy collection for TBS’ upcoming lineup. Search Party, a comedy starring Alia Shawkat, and People of Earth, featuring Wyatt Cenac, have already been greenlit by the network.
