Deadline has reported that Toni Collette will be starring in yet another Netflix series, this coming fresh off the heels of her acclaimed starring role in Unbelievable. The dramatic thriller, Pieces of Her, is based on the 2018 book by bestselling crime author Karin Slaughter. Minkie Spiro is set to act as the series director, which consists of eight episodes and hails from executive producers Lesli Linka Glatter, Charlotte Stoudt and Bruna Papandrea.
Stoudt acts as writer and showrunner for Pieces of Her, which is set in a quiet Georgia town and centers around Laura (Collette) and her daughter Andy. Together they embark on a dangerous journey across America that draws them closer towards the dark hidden secrets of their family.
Collette’s portrayal of Laura Oliver is that of a serious woman dedicated to her work as a speech pathologist but puts family first. But when ghosts of Laura’s past come back to haunt her, audiences come to discover there is more to the story than perhaps thought.
Collette’s most recent appearance for Netflix was when she starred opposite Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever in the limited series Unbelievable, as well as her appearance in the motion picture Knives Out. Collette can next be seen starring with Damian Lewis in Euros Lyn’s Sundance film Dream Horse, which is set to premiere this May.
Spiro’s next directing gig is with The Plot Against America, which is a miniseries based on Philip Roth’s novel. Most recently Spiro shared in a 2020 DGA Award nomination for directing an episode of FX’s Fosse/Verdon limited series. Other recent directing credits for her consist of Netflix’s Dead To Me and NBC’s The Village, just to name a few.
Slaughter has written 20 novels such as Cop Town, Pretty Girls, The Good Daughter and the Grant County and Will Trent series. More than 35 million copies of her books have been sold, as well as have been translated into more than three dozen languages.
