After the attacks at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, TNT has made the decision to postpone the season three premiere of The Last Ship because of similarities the season premiere has to the actual events, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The two hour long third season premiere, which was slated to air on June 12, has been pushed back by TNT and a new premiere date has yet to be announced.
In a sneak peek that was posted to YouTube on June 10, viewers see Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) sitting at a table with Asian dignitaries. When the scene changes, members of the ship are seen in a nightclub as someone begins to open fire on everyone in the club.
In a statement that Variety published, TNT said “As a result of the shootings this weekend in Orlando, tonight’s originally scheduled season premiere of The Last Ship has been postponed. Our hearts are with the victims and their families.”
The Last Ship revolves around the crew members of a Navy missile destroyer and ship that is one of the few survivors of a global viral pandemic that killed 80 percent of the world’s population. The surviving members must find a cure for the virus in order to prevent it from spreading even more than it already has. The show is loosely based off of the 1988 novel of the same name, which is written by William Brinkley.
The show stars Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra and Adam Baldwin and one of the executive producers of the show is Michael Bay. Dane also serves as a producer of the show.
The Last Ship wasn’t the only entertainment event that was canceled or postponed because of the violence. At the ATX Festival in Austin, Texas, there was going to be a violence themed panel that ended up being canceled, according to Variety. Posts on ATX’s Twitter and Facebook pages also confirmed that the panel was canceled out of respect to the victims and their families.
For fans who want to catch up on the first two seasons of The Last Ship before a premiere date is announced, they are currently available for streaming on Hulu. When the third season premieres, it will have 13 episodes.
