Deadline has reported that three windy city shows have been renewed for a new season. The silver screen will see Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med continue. All three have made it to double-digit seasons. Chicago Fire is on its fifteenth season, Chicago P.D. is on its 14th, and Chicago Med is on its 12th. The trio of shows is all set to return in the fall of 2026.
The renewal was anticipated by fans and pundits alike in the series. The recent crossover between the series led to a 75% spike in social video views. Last year, the renewal was in significant doubt as OneChicago was in the midst of the budget cuts. The cuts ended with the series’ season order reduced from 22 to 21 episodes.
While the renewal has been secured, OneChicago will still need to negotiate the contracts of the show’s veteran cast members. Previously, Chicago Fire’s lead actor, Taylor Kinney (The Other Women, Zero Thirty), was still in doubt about his appearance in the upcoming seasons. This year, OneChicago will need to bring back the heart of Chicago Med in S. Epatha Merkerson. The other longest tenured cast member of Chicago Med is Oliver Platt (The Three Musketeers, Bicentennial Man). Joining Kinner in the cast of Chicago Fire is Joe Minoso (Man Of Steel, Paper Flower), Christina Stolte (Public Enemy, Law Abiding Citizen), and David Eigenberg (Sex And The City, A Perfect Murder). Even though her appearance in upcoming seasons is not guaranteed, it is expected.
After ten years of viewership, OneChicago has maintained strong viewership across both linear and streaming. The three shows consistently appear in Peacock’s top ten. The three series follow the lives of Chicago’s first responders, showing the difficulties of the life and death situations that they tangle with. The series is produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment.
