The highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s Castlevania: Nocturne finally arrives this week. The streamer released a final trailer before its debut on Thursday, January 16. View the new trailer below.
The second season of Nocturne reunites us with Richter Belmont, a descendant of legendary vampire hunters, facing an apocalyptic villain during the French Revolution. When a self-proclaimed Vampire Messiah rises to power among the vampiric elite class, Richter must partner with a ragtag of revolutionaries to combat the forces of evil. The young demon slayer is paired with his cousin, Maria Renard, an escaped Afro-Caribean slave, Annette, and the half-breed son of Dracula himself, Alucard.
Our trio of main heroes will face their biggest threat yet in Erzsebet Báthory, a vampire who claims to possess the power of an Egyptian deity. Báthory vows to collapse the revolution, restore vampires as the ruling class, and descend the planet into perpetual night. Her onslaught begins in Paris and will soon invade the rest of Europe before proceeding West. Assisting her tyranny are the vampire Doltra and the local Abbot who traded his vow to God for a vow of selfish power. And Maria’s mother, Tera, a powerful mage who sacrificed her humanity to protect her family.
From the trailer alone, fans can expect more blooodied battles and even scarier creatures filling the night sky. Richter, who unlocked his magic last season, seems more focused. The young hunter cowered before when faced with avenging his mother’s murder by the hands of a vampire named Olrox. Now, with Alucard and his grandfather, Juste Belmont, joining the ranks, hope has a glimmering chance at destorying Báthory and her demonic minions.
The series has an all-star cast including Edward Bluemel (The Commuter, The Halcyon), Pixie Davies (Mary Poppins Returns, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children), Thuso Mbedu (The Woman King, The Underground Railroad), Sydney James Harcourt (I’m Not Gay: A Musical, Hamilton), Nastassja Kinski (Cat People, Paris), and James Callis (Slow Horses, Battlestar Galactica).
Nocturne is the spinoff of the original Castlevania series which ran for four seasons on Netflix. Premiering in 2017, the show followed Trevor Belmont and a mage named Sypha, who inadvertently become the protectors of mankind after Dracula swears to extinguish life in 15th-century Eastern Europe. The series is inspired by the popular video game that places players in the role of battling vampires, witches, and other night creatures.
While excitement is fresh for the upcoming season, series creator Samuel Deats (A King’s Tale: Final Fantasy XV) reminded viewers to support the series if they want the story to continue in future seasons. In a post on X, he mentioned how the creative team was “going on hiatus until release and we find out if we’re getting renewed. It goes without saying, but if you want to see more shows of Castlevania quality, please support S2 when it releases!”
Make sure to stream season two of Castlevania: Nocturne on Thursday only on Netflix.
