Numerous members of The Wild Thornberrys voice cast have taken to social media to tribute former co-star Tim Curry (Clue, Legend), who passed away suddenly at the age of 80 earlier this week (per Deadline). Curry lent his voice to Sir Nigel Archibald Thornberry — the family’s eccentric and exceedingly British patriarch — in the Nickelodeon cartoon.
Lacey Chabert (Mean Girls, Lost in Space), who voiced his daughter Eliza, acknowledged Curry’s passing in a now-deleted Instagram story. “I’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories of working with Tim on The Wild Thornberrys,” Chabert’s post read (via Deadline).”It was such a joy to watch him create a character. He was always so incredibly kind to me and encouraging. He will be so very missed.”
“How lucky I felt to share the stage with him for 7 years,” reads a similar Instagram post by Danielle Harris (The Last Boy Scout, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), who played older sister Debbie on the show. “I recorded with Tim more than anyone on the cast and my face would literally hurt from laughing leaving the recording studio. I would get so excited when I’d pull into work and see his car in the parking lot. Tims (sic) uncanny humor and naughty wit was like no other and I just absolutely adored him. Tim has undoubtedly left a mark on all of our lives forever. He will be remembered.” Australian musician Flea (The Outsiders, Baby Driver), who featured as the gibberish-speaking Donnie, added that Curry was “kind, smart, and funny as hell” and wished the actor “beautiful and cosmic journeys.”
In addition to his iconic roles in cult classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Muppet Treasure Island, Curry quietly became one of the American animation industry’s most prolific voice actors throughout his career. Besides Nigel, some of his most recognizable roles include the villain Hexxus in FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Captain Hook in Peter Pan & The Pirates, and Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Curry suffered from health complications such as impaired mobility and memory loss he incurred as the result of a major stroke in 2012, but to what extent these issues contributed to his death are unknown, as representatives have yet to publicly disclose the cause of the actor’s passing. His is one of several losses to shock Hollywood this week along with those of country music star Dolly Parton and fellow voice actor Peter Cullen.
