At New York Comic Con, The Wheel of Time season one recap and season two sneak-peek was released on Friday by Prime Video during the Prime Video Presents: The Wheel of Time & The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power panel presentation. Fans in attendance at the New York Comic Con were granted exclusive privileged first glance at Dónal Finn (The Witcher, Albion) as Mat Cauthon, Ceara Coveney (Young Wallander, The Amazing World of Emma) as Elayne Trakand, followed by a grand welcome video from the series’ star, Rosamund Pike (Die Another Day, Jack Reacher) as Moiraine.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July, it was announced that The Wheel of Time was picked up for a third season, succeeding the wrap-up of production on season two earlier this year. The series’ first three episodes (out of a total of eight) are set to debut Friday, November 19. New episodes will be available each Friday henceforth, leading up to a season finale that airs on December 24.
The Wheel of Time‘s showrunner, Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hemlock Grove), disclosed new cast members for season 2 that includes Coveney, Natasha O’Keeffe (Peaky Blinders), and Meera Syal (Broadchurch). O’Keeffe and Syal will fill roles that have not yet been disclosed, but Judkins teased as “two of the most important characters in the series,” according to TVLine.
The Wheel of Time is an adaptation based on the sequence of novels of the same name written by the ingenious author, Robert Jordan. The initial novel, which was the basis of the first season, focuses on Moiraine, a delegate of a group of women saturated with magical power known as the Aes Sedai. Moiraine organized a rendezvous, under the impression that one of them is the Dragon Reborn, which is a mythical figure whose reincarnated form is fated to either eradicate the world or salvage it from ruin.
