The Korean romantasy series, The Remarried Empress, is a big-budget adaptation of the Naver Webtoon series of the same name. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will be streaming on Disney+ as its biggest international title of 2026.
A ‘special look’ premieres on Disney+ at 4 p.m. Wednesday (KST) of unseen footage and behind-the-scenes interviews with actors Shin Min-a (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Oh My Venus), Ju Ji-hoon (Kingdom, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call), Lee Jong-suk (Big Mouth, Law and the City), and Lee Se-young (The Red Sleeve, Motel California).
The series has Shin Min-a play Navier, who is the empress of the fictional land called the Eastern Kingdom. She is married to Emperor Sovieshu played by Ju Ji-hoon but their loyalty to their marriage is jeopardized when the emperor becomes close to a runaway slave girl played by Lee Se-young and the empress falls for the Crown Prince Heinrey played by Lee Jong-suk, who is the heir to their rivals of the Western Kingdom.
The preview of the series also has director Cho Su-won (I Can Hear Your Voice, My Happy End), screenwriter Yeoh Geena (The Uncanny Counter, Brave Citizen), and other key creatives elaborate more on the show’s sets, costumes, and real-world locations, including France, Germany, and the Czech Republic. They discuss how their search for such beautiful places helped them capture the originality of the Webtoon series.
Disney has the featurette made to stimulate anticipation for the series release and to signify the first preview of a Korean show promoted by the company.
The series debuts its first four episodes on November 4th on Disney+ and Hulu while having two other installments coming every Wednesday through November 25th. During its launch on the two streaming services, it will have its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival at Busan Cinema Center in South Korea in early October.
