Breakout star Emily Kinney of AMC’s The Walking Dead has confirmed her upcoming part as a season 3 regular on Showtime’s Masters of Sex.
Kinney’s casting in Masters of Sex seems to be the latest addition to her repertoire as she branches out from the role as zombie-slaying sweetheart, Beth Greene, which catalyzed her rise to fame. In the third season of the Showtime drama, Masters of Sex, Kinney will play a sex surrogate – certainly a digression from her usual, gorier pursuits on The Walking Dead – but Emily Kinney is nothing if not versatile.
In addition to her stint on The Walking Dead, Kinney, 29, has also appeared in The Good Wife, Law and Order, SVU, and The Flash. On top of her prolific acting career, she is an accomplished singer-songwriter. Between battling the undead on-screen and recording indie music, it’s a wonder Kinney has time for anything else – but her talent speaks for itself. Her role on Masters of Sex is sure to be just as compelling as her myriad past performances, making season 3 a must-watch.
Masters of Sex premiered on Showtime in 2013, and centers on the lives and careers of sex specialists, Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson, in 1950s and 60s America. The series explores the trials of working in the taboo field of sex studies in the sexually-repressed mid-20th century, as well as the dramatized interpersonal relationships formed between Masters, Johnson, and their subjects and colleagues. Kinney will play Nora, Masters’ and Johnson’s neighbor and newly trained sex surrogate.
Season 3 of Masters of Sex is set to officially premiere this Sunday, July 12, at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime. For those more tech-savvy, the first episode has already been released online, and can be viewed here.
