Via Screen Rant, Crimson Countess is a character from the original The Boys comics created by Garth Ennis (writer, The Boys) and Darick Robertson (illustrator, The Boys). Created as a parody of Marvel’s Scarlet Witch character, Crimson Countess has slightly lesser powers than her MCU counterpart, but does have the ability to fly and generate heat at will.
Since both Soldier Boy and Crimson Countess are going to be major players in The Boys‘ third season, many are speculating that the series will see Crimson Countess as her original iteration, a World War II super team member named Payback. According to Screen Rant, the third season is preparing to tackle Soldier Boy’s origin story, which will likely include Holden as Payback.
For now, Holden has been billed as a recurring cast member, meaning she may not appear in every episode, but will more than likely be in a majority of the season’s episodes. Holden’s character certainly has a deep history in The Boys‘ universe to draw from, both in the comics and in earlier seasons of the television series. According to Screen Rant, an episode in season one referenced the Crimson Countess when Starlight (played by Erin Moriarty, Captain Fantastic) theorized she may serve as a new member of The Seven.
