The fan-favorite franchise The Walking Dead took on WonderCon this weekend, with the exclusive season two premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Those in attendance were treated to a teaser and the premiere date. The premiere opened with a message to the audience from the beloved actors in the show, Lauren Cohan (The Boy, Mile 22) and Jefferey Dean Morgan (Rampage, P.S. I Love You), apologizing that they couldn’t make the event, but fans received the news of the release date as Morgan announced the series will debut on May 4th on AMC+.

The new season continues the journey of the characters Negan and Maggie as they navigate a deserted, zombie-crawling city. Fans were ecstatic to see the fiery characters return to the small screen as the episode launched into a zombie fight. Negan makes a return, sitting in a jail cell, describing Maggie as the kind of mother she is. A, “Mama bear that would tear out your throat with her teeth, right after she gutted you with her claws.”

Fans definitely see this in the new episode as Maggie continues to take care of Ginny and Hershel, who face major conflict throughout the episode. A new form of legislation in town, called The New Babalon Federation, takes on the remnants of the city and its people who stand divided over repairing the human race. Some enjoy the lawless land while others are making efforts to restore Manhattan. The New Babalon Federation makes no exceptions when it comes to the laws they try to enforce. Along with the legislation attempt, Babalon starts a mission of recruiting those who can fight and destroy what’s left of the walkers. The New Babalon Federation has quite the selling point as they have access to methane, the very thing that can bring back electricity and necessities. Maggie, Ginny, and Hershel leave the safety of the refugee camp and head back to Manhattan, as Negan is forced to work with the new law makers. This season is set to be action packed and plot thickening.

Fans can expect to see some of their favorites returning and a possible upgrade in zombie fighting weapons. Following Morgan and Cohan, some cast members viewers will see in The Walking Dead spinoff series Gaius Charles (Salt, Friday Night Lights), Logan Kim (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), and Mahina Napoleon (Show Me More, NCIS: Hawaii).

Catch the premiere of The Walking Dead: Dead City on AMC+ on May 4th!
