‘The Tyrant,’ The Disney+ Korean Spy Drama, Has Been Renewed By The Streamer

Disney+ has renewed its Korean series The Tyrant for second season, The Hollywood Reporter has reported. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The series focuses on a fight and race in time between the US and Korean intelligence to find a bioweapon that was secretly stolen and if released, it could damage the entire humanity.

The synopsis describes the show as the following: “After years of toiling away on a secret project designed to drastically enhance human abilities, the Korean government’s plan is exposed by U.S. intelligence agencies. Furious about being kept in the dark, the U.S. demands all samples be handed over and the project be immediately shut down. But when the covert handover is attacked by an unknown party, agents from both sides will have to work together to avoid the dangerous new formula falling into the wrong hands.”

The main leads of the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter, are Cha Seung-won (Our Blues, A Korean Odyssey) as mercenary Lim Sang; Jo Yoon-soo (True Beauty, Juvenile Justice) as infiltrator Chae Jagyeong; Kim Kang-woo (Le Grand Chef, Goodbye Mr. Black) as Paul, a U.S. intelligence agent, and Kim Seon-ho (Start-Up, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) as the secret Korean project director, named Choe.

The Tyrant was the latest addition to the Korean series on Disney+, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The director and writer is Park Hoon-Jung, whose previous works include The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion, Night in Paradise, The Witch: Part 2. The Other One, and The ChildeThe Tyrant is his streaming series debut.

The streamer has found main leads for many Korean Dramas. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that is because Disney+ has added various Korean Drama series, such as Wonderful World, Light Shop, and the period drama Uncle Samsik.

The first season of The Tyrant is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
