The Third Season of Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’ To Jump Forward In Time According to Asa Butterfield

The hit comedy series Sex Education is preparing for its third season on Netflix and according to its star Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game), the series’ story for the upcoming season will jump ahead in time, according to Screen Rant. Planned for January 2021 premiere, the third season and its production have witnessed delays to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, it is unknown when the new season will premiere on the streaming service platform.

Despite the delays in production, Butterfield stated in an interview with The Guardian that the series will take place slightly in the future. “There’s bit of a time jump since the season two cliffhanger. Otis is back at school but he’s got different things on his plate. He’s grown up a bit and become slightly more sassy. IT’s been fun to portray his newfound charisma. Don’t worry, though, he’s still tragically awkward too,” said Butterfield via The Guardian

Sex Education centers on the awkward teen Otis Milburn who has to live in a house with his single mother Jean who operates as a sex therapist. Butterfield portrays the lead character Otis with Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) playing his mother Jean. Additional cast includes Otis’ love interest Maeve Wiley portrayed by Emma Mackey (Death on the Nile), Otis’ best friend Eric played by Ncuti Gatwa (Stonemouth), lone wolf bully Adam Groff portrayed by Connor Swindells (Emma.), and the star athlete Jackson Marchetti played by Kedar Williams-Stirling (Montana). Furthermore, Patricia Allison (Les Misérables), Alistair Petrie (The Night Manager, Rush), Tanya Renyolds (Outlander), and Aimee Lou Wood (Louis Wain) are a part of the cast while Jemima Kirke (Girls) is set to join for the upcoming third season.

The British Netflix comedy series was created by Laurie Nunn (Radiance).
